Temple Israel is a true community, as it brings together congregants who have taken many different roads in their Jewish journeys and creates for them an atmosphere in which everyone – both young and old – enjoy working together. Our synagogue is situated in New Rochelle, a city in which residents are proud of diversity and of the fact that people of many different backgrounds work together here in a climate of tolerance and inclusion. We are truly blessed to live in a municipality that embraces varied ideals and cultures.
Our membership is a microcosm of southern Westchester County: dynamic, diverse, multigenerational, and forward thinking. Our members come primarily from lower Westchester and southern Connecticut, including the towns of Eastchester, Greenburgh, Greenwich, Harrison, Hartsdale, Larchmont, Mt. Vernon, New Rochelle, Pelham, Rye, Scarsdale, White Plains, and Yonkers … and beyond.
We welcome singles and families of many compositions, including interfaith, LGBT, seniors, and people with disabilities. Our hearing impaired members often enjoy sign language interpretation at Friday night services. Our Synagogue is proud to have passed its 100th anniversary, reflecting a heritage that includes a significant number of 2nd and 3rd generation families. Over the past few years, our community has seen an increase in the number of new families joining us, many with children who attend our early childhood program and religious school.
Mission Statement:
We are a community that adds meaning and purpose to modern lives through an inclusive approach to Judaism. We live our Jewish values in our worship, celebration, lifelong learning and Tikkun Olam — the repair of the world.
