Passover – Candle Reading

Reading Before Candle Lighting

As we light these candles that usher in this Passover holiday, let their light shine past these walls to the world outside.

As we light these candles, let their light enable us to clearly see God’s precious gift to us the Jewish people, our freedom from bondage and slavery.

As we light these candles let their light illuminate another fight for freedom and bondage that is being thrust upon the world by the coronavirus.

As we light these candles, let their light illuminate all areas of the world that need help, whether it be our own family, friends, community or strangers.

As we light these candles, let their light make us aware of our obligation to do tikkun olam, and our responsibility to fight this virus, a modern day pharaoh, with whatever ability and means we have, whether large or small.

As we light these candles, we pray that we are able to thank You, God, for the gift of freedom that You gave us centuries ago, by acting in Your image to save others from this virus, a new modern day plague. By doing so, we will bring honor to this Passover holiday.
